The product services specialist is the subject matter expert for an assigned group of carriers and is responsible for supporting the company’s existing product offerings, as well as researching and performing in-depth coverage analysis, including market analysis rate and plan benefit comparisons, market surveys and product vetting. The specialist also applies their research skills to create training content and materials for different audiences.
The responsibilities of the job include acting as a point of contact for carriers and partners, serving as the subject matter expert for carrier quoting systems, and acting as a liaison for new product ratings. The product services specialist also verifies and updates carrier information on the company intranet and public websites, creates and updates sales tools and content, coordinates a monthly review of website materials to ensure the accuracy of carrier information and documents, and uses reports to analyze sales information and applies this information to various projects and reports to different stakeholders.
The person hired for the job will also be responsible for keeping abreast of current trends, carrier market positions, strategies and competitive situations. They will perform advanced analysis of product lines, analyze trends and develop strategic recommendations that support business decisions and influence new initiatives. Other duties include conducting regular sales analysis of carrier performance with the organization and its major competitors. The job also requires conducting training on carrier quoting and other topics, participating in information gathering and coordinating different project tasks as they relate to implementing new products and services.
The specialist will also be required to cross-train to support other positions and attend regular department meetings and provide input or reports as needed.
The qualifications needed for the job include five years of experience in the health benefits industry and five years experience selling health insurance products, a bachelor’s degree, strong carrier portfolio knowledge and extensive knowledge of the GA market and broker community. In addition, the specialist must have strong organizational, analytical and communication skills, proficiency in MS Office software, especially MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
The specialist should also be able to effectively analyze and research data, educate staff and develop tools and resources, use technology to create and deliver training materials and content, quickly grasp new concepts and technologies and adapt to changes.
