Risk Advisor - San Rafael

If you are an experienced Risk Advisor with high energy, motivation and great analytical and customer service skills, we want you!  The Risk and Loss Control Management position requires comprehensive risk assessment responsibilities evaluating business operations for various large commercial accounts.  

We are looking for someone with broad knowledge of the commercial insurance industry and it is preferred that the Risk Advisor has experience working for several years with one or more sides of the industry with a wholesaler, carrier, agency, etc.

Thorough understanding of various business operations and risk exposures

Dissect commercial policies and review for accuracy and effectiveness

Experience with audit of commercial risks, premium and policies

Gather information about the client’s business practices and procedures

Produce reports based on your findings and propose adjustments as needed


  • Review and analyze large commercial accounts for proper coverage
  • Identify and analyze critical issues to help recommend and implement solutions
  • Analyze insureds’ loss history and claims
  • Prepare risk assessment reports with recommendations
  • Required overnight travel of up to 4 days per month
  • Assist in the marketing and delivery of risk control services to clients and prospects
  • Maintain relationships with and conduct regular field visits with carrier representatives

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • 5+ years’ experience in Risk Management and/or Loss Control position for workers’ compensation through employment with a carrier or as a Risk Manager/Loss Control Representative or Consultant for a business operation
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, agriculture and/or safety related fields a plus
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) a preferred
  • OSHA 500 Certified Trainer preferred
  • Excellent leadership, problem solving and planning skills required
  • Extensive knowledge of California workers’ compensation insurance
  • Knowledge of California food and agriculture business preferred
  • Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural preferred
  • Must be professional, responsible, organized and self-motivated
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
  • Proficient in preparing reports via word processing and/or report writing software required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present risk analysis for a group of people
  • Experience conducting safety meetings and presentations
  • Must be well versed in OSHA and other Federal and State Safety Compliance regulations
